Jozsef Trefeli

József Trefeli is a Geneva based Swiss choreographer. Australian born of Hungarian origins. He graduated from the University of Melbourne VCA with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance.

József worked for three years in Australia before establishing himself in Geneva in 1996. József has performed as dancer, singer and actor for many companies including Alias Company, Skree Wolf, Gilles Jobin, Greffe, Théâtre l'Articule, Korpüs Animüs, and Théâtre Spirale. In 2005 József founded his own company in Geneva for which he has created more than 20 choreographic works. Noteworthy is the choreography created in collaboration with Gabor Varga, JINX 103 has been performed more than 200 times in 112 cities of 33 countries. Also together in 2015, they choreographed Creature which received a Swiss Dance Award in the category Current Dance Works in 2017. József has also choreographed for Ballet Junior Geneva, Uranus Company, La Comedie de Geneva and the Opera de Lausanne Switzerland, La Clique Scotland, the New Zealand Dance Company and Provincial Dances Theatre Yekaterinburg Russia for which his choreography Ipesity has received five nominations for the 2021 Russian National Theatre Golden Mask Awards including «best contemporary dance performance» and «best choreographer».
